English for Health Sciences (ESL)
This course is designed for second language learners who need Grade 12 English equivalency for entry to VCC's Health Sciences programs. Students who achieve a grade of B or higher in speaking/listening, reading and writing will meet the Grade 12 English requirement for entry to the following Health Sciences Programs:
- Practical Nursing
- Pharmacy Technician
- Medical Lab Assistant
- Dental Assisting/Reception/Technology
- Denturist
- Renal Dialysis Technician
- Nursing Unit Clerk
- Practical Nursing Refresher Program
- Sterile Supply Technician
The course focuses on the skills needed for VCC Health Sciences programs:
- Developing professional communication skills
- Building professional vocabulary
- Reading textbooks
- Taking notes from lectures
- Developing research skills
- Presenting summaries and reports
- Participating in class discussions and meetings
