To qualify for CPE classes, you must meet one of the following conditions:
FOR COURSES LEADING TO HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY CREDIT:
You have taken the VCC English Language Assessment Test (ELA) within the last year and have scored a minimum of 105.
You have completed Upper Advanced Level at VCC in English Language Skills or Outreach Department.
You have been given a signed registration permission by the Department Head or Assistant Department Head.
FOR UNIVERSITY TRANSFER CREDIT COURSES:
You have taken the LPI (Language Proficiency Index) within the past year and achieved a minimum score of 24 with at least 4 on Composition and 5 on usage.
You have completed English 099 in the CPE Department at VCC.
You have taken the English Language Assessment at VCC within the last year, and achieved a minimum of 145, with at least 25 in Composition.
You have taken the CBT TOEFL in the past year and achieved a minimum of 220 with 5 on the essay portion.
You have completed English 12 in British Columbia and achieved a minimum of 80% on the Provincial Examination.
FOR NON-CREDIT COURSES:
For TOEFL score Improvement only:
- You have completed the TOEFL Test within the last year and achieved a minimum score of 173. (500 on paper-based test)
For all non-credit courses:
- You have a current report card or ELA result that shows that your level falls somewhere within the range of the CPE department.
- You have a signed permission slip from the Department Head or Assistant Department Head for one or more specific courses.
